For some unknown reason the 2006 Green Bay Packers took the field at Lambeau Field last night and they lost to the New York Giants (23-20 in OT)  who gained the berth to Superbowl XLII to take on our undefeated New England Patriots.

The Packers couldn't get more than two or three big plays out of the offense which has been superior in the last few weeks but the "super" cold temperature (-1 F, -23F windchill) made it difficult to perform normally. The Giants out hit and outplayed the Packers, survived poor kicking by Lawrence Tynes and took the game in overtime to move out of the NFC and into the Superbowl.

The Patriots got a not-so Tom Brady game out of the quarterback who threw for 3 INTs against the stingy San Diego Chargers defense. Lawrence Maroney and Kevin Faulk were both brilliant and carried the offense to the win. The now under-rated, "ageing" defense has demonstrated that it can compete with anyone.

This will be the Giants 4th (2-1) Superbowl appearance and the Patriots 6th (3-2) as America and the world will once again watch a New York/Boston rivalry.
Superbowl XLII (42) takes place in the newly constructed University of Phoenix domed stadium with a retractable roof.

The conditions will be perfect. The Patriots will be playing to remain perfect. So far for the Giants, the plan is perfect. As far as I'm concerned, the Pats survived the season's worst game from Tom Brady and still won. Watching the game somewhere in Greater New Bedford? Perfect.
