An Open Letter To Target's Corporate Office:
Your commercials are lovely, your new Dartmouth Store is inviting, but I've about had it with Target's anti-Christian policies which its Corporate Office seems to be going out of its way to practice. I recently read of Target's "troubles" in having to have check-out teams on hand at the registers because of its Muslim cashiers who refuse to ring up pork products.Yet Target decided to fire a pharmacist in its employ for refusing to dispense the "morning after" pill because of his religious beliefs, even though he'd been told by the retailer when he was hired in April 2006, that he could refer the customers for this product to another pharmacy.
I also hear that Target is continuing the policy of refusing to allow the good works of The Salvation Army to benefit from its customers, although it's apparently managed to rein its Christmas Nazis who were standing by waiting to lower the boom on any employees who dared to wish a  customer a (gulp!) "Merry Christmas"!
Whether or not you agree with Target's handling of these issues, you must conclude that absolutely none of this nonsense is necessary. Target itself claimed in its rationale for firing the pharmacist that it values "diversity". Apparently Target's definition of "diversity" amounts to accommodation for Muslims and the heave ho for Christians.
Unlike businesses operating within some governments we won't mention, Target enjoys the right to conduct its business as it chooses and needn't worry about being dictated to by the government... at least not yet. On the other hand, its Corporate Office has chosen to mold its retail giant into a "political statement", and I, for one, have decided that I will no longer contribute to its "cause".
