I am an unapologetic critic of Islam & feel reform within that religion is key to ultimate victory.
In his reporting from al-Ahamir, a village in Iraq, Michael Yon asks
“All the people were gone. But where?”
It's become almost rhetorical by now, but the easiest way to console yourself is.. Just say three soothing words.. They're all gone.. Those words must be like a salve for the wounded soul, because they have served as an entire civilizations rational to justify some of the most despicable and barbaric atrocities known to modern man..
The first time I can remember hearing them said to me, I was just a boy eagerly anticipating the final week of the Munich Olympics.. If you're old enough you'll remember what life was like before ESPN and 24 hour sports…
The Olympic Games were the most anticipated sporting event we had… & these games were shaping up to be among the best ever… Who can forget Mark Spitz and his seven gold medals? Olga Korbett leaping over the Iron Curtain to capture our hearts? Or the most controversial 2 seconds in any basketball game ever played?
But when I think back to the summer of ‘72 the first thing that comes to mind is Jim McKay waking me from my slumber with three simple words…
“They're all gone…”
In 35 years that have followed I've heard them said time and again…
243 of my Brothers
A colonel in a Blue Beret
A Lance Corporal who had the bunk above mine
A sailor on an airplane
An old man in a wheel chair
“They're all gone… “
Though some they say, really did care;
somehow those words;
never bothered a hair..
Seven People in New York
People in Embassies by scores
Soldiers in Dhahran
Sailors on the Cole
“They're all gone… “
May soothe us…
But are they restless souls?
3000 more on a God awful day
“They're all gone” ..
Are three words;
I'd rather not say..
Though you dare not believe;
Yes, some folks are unkind;
Cassandra warned Trojans who paid her no mind…
Ignore my forewarnings and soon you will find
“They're all gone” are today’s; Words for the blind …
Human Pride World-Wide
