I think the point has to be made that Jim Ogonowski is running for U.S. Senate on the blood of his brother. * Added 3/15/08 -Meaning that terrorism is the primary issue which motivated him. This is in no way suggesting that Mr. Ogonowski is "using" his brother's tragic death to his advantage. The idea to engage the political process is indeed noble but if that is his motivation, why on Earth would he stand in the path of a former US Delta Forces assault team commander and CIA Counter Terrorist expert? An expert who by the way, warned the late John Ogonowski's employer, American Airlines as well as other airlines (*total Security Document in April of 2000) that "a terrorist insurgency to the cockpit was a likely scenario in the near future".
If Ogonowski really thought about it, he would concede the race to Beatty for the good of both the Republicans and for the country. Draining Republican funds to compete in a primary is well within his rights but those funds would also be needed when one remembers that Senator John F. Kerry will be waiting in the ring with $15M and a limitless cash flow in Teresa Heinz-Kerry for the general election.
Mr. Ogonowski has a fine military record and appears to have demonstrated excellence in logistics. He is also, otherwise a good GOP candidate. Many of us agree with most of his positions (sadly he is pro-choice). However, the clearest choice from the standpoint of appealing to the citizens of Massachusetts would be found in the superb, unique credentials and experiences found in Jeff Beatty.
Another concern is debates. Considering the now infamous "SCHIP" answer which Ogonowski stumbled over before refusing to answer to Jim Braude on NECN's News Night. Going up against Kerry will require a big league candidate. I have doubts here, is that unfair?
Perhaps Ron Kaufman thinks having one counter terrorist expert in the U.S. Senate is one too many, but Massachusetts Republicans had better decide for themselves what is the best thing for their country. Why anyone is impressed with Kaufman is beyond me. He loses every place he "helps". To me, it seems reckless to have a man who lobbies for heavy dough to have influence over a party trying to rise from the ashes such as the Massachusets Republicans. Whether or not we rise, his bread is put on the table by finding ways to reach the President's ear, not by winning elections. Otherwise Mr. Kaufman would belly up.

This is a free country, and supporting your candidate doesn't mean trashing the other. I just makes Beatty look weak, if that the only argument that can be made.

Please hold yourselves to the same standard. Beatty should not be cut from under because the top brass can't benefit as much as they would when their puppet is elected. what is being done to Beatty is criminal. Tork didn't even recognize him to the room the other night...think
Ogonowski would have been snubbed? The more divided we are the more rewards RK gets. We're collectively too stupid to correct this.

Torkildsen recognized Beatty at both the State committee meeting and the meeting with Chairman Duncan. I personally saw Executive Director Rob Willington getting Jeff Beatty in position to talk to chairman Duncan. That sir is a lie.

More than a few persons have corroberated the observations that Torkildsen was urged to recognize Mr. Beatty after it was clear he had no plans to do so. If your facts are so secured why post anonymously?

The straw candidate is a time honored Massachusetts tradition... What started as way of keeping Marginal politicians in their seats, became an art form during the Bulger years... People in this state don't pay attention to the issues, they blindly obey their party leaders, usually to the detriment of their own political convictions.... Such is the life of a lemming...
