Things that make you go Grrrrr
Isn't it about time Bob Unger & the rest of the folks down at the Standard Times step down off their high horses on the subject of Immigration? The S-T's continued insistence that illegal immigration is somehow a boon for this community is nothing more than a canard...
This area was delivered another reminder of just how foolish the practice of unregulated immigration is this past Friday... Though not mentioned in the coverage of the tragedy, the death of the "Mayan" woman at the hands of her estranged boyfriend, unintentionally high-lighted some of the social problems this current wave of Illegals is causing to the fabric of our society...
The child involved is apparently yet another example of an out of wedlock child birth, this alarming trend is sweeping across the Hispanic community and Hispanics today are 3 times more likely than Asian or Anglo immigrants to have an out of wed lock child... Though African American out of wedlock statistics are 68% and Hispanics 50% as of 2005; due to their sheer numbers, (and the anchor that having a child born in this country creates), Hispanics are now out-pacing the African American Community in children born to single mothers in alarming numbers... Anyone studying the data on the children of single parents knows these children are at extremely high risk for High School drop out, drug abuse, criminal & gang activity as well as the incarceration that comes with being a "Playah" in the game...
The 5 "residents" of 148 Tinkham St. were apparently comprised of four adults & a child living in a single family residence... At one time we had community agencies whose job it was to ensure that such living arrangements did not exist... Over crowding single family residences and tiny apartments with more than they were designed for is troubling on many levels... It drives up the cost of affordable housing, over burdens our schools, Hospitals, roadways, Job Market & sewerage treatment facilities... All of which are then subsidized by you the Tax Paying American Citizen or Legal Alien Worker...
In what I consider to be the height of chutzpah, this Sunday Mr. Unger chose to hi-light the above while describing a series of articles on the 10,000 Central Americans who are currently "Taking jobs and earning dollars they send back to their homes " whilst living illegally in this community...
I must have missed those latest rosy unemployment figures, that fail to show the South Coast with a surplus of labor and a dearth of opportunity...
As a life long resident of this, the matriarch of all nanny states, I must say I agree whole heartedly with the Nobel winning economist Milton Friedman who once quipped, "Quite obviously, unfettered immigration cannot exist in a welfare state"...
Readers interested in some of the hard facts you most likely won't find any of the S-T's reporting on this subject should read "The Immigration Solution" by Heather MacDonald, Victor Davis Hanson & Steven Malanga... After reading this book you'll be quite certain of one thing; when it comes to Family Values, assimilation, civic morality, & labor skills, equating the Central American & Mexican illegal immigration over the last 20 years with that of the Irish & Italian immigrants of the late 19th & early 20th century , is one of the most disengenuous arguments ever made...
