Regular readers of this site know I went to New York city for the first time in almost 30 years this week… I went to Columbia to protest the presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Armadinejad… I got to the up-town campus via the ACELA Train, Penn. Station, and finally a cab with a driver from the Ivory Coast, who speedily delivered me right to 116th and Broadway, (The Eye of the Storm) …
I want to discuss four people I met in particular… The cabby from the Ivory Coast, an Iranian Dissident, a Jewish fellow, and a Gentile from Pennsylvania… My cab driver was an extremely affable man, he superbly guided us up Broadway and handled the 11:00 Am traffic like the seven year veteran he claimed to be… Along the way I engaged him in conversation, when I told him the reason for my visit to Columbia he went in to a litany of the harm done to his homeland by Islamic Extremists… Shortly before I got out of his cab he said “If I didn’t have to work, I would be right there with you brother… These Muslims must be dealt with…” (As a Pre-Emptive strike to the anticipated Leftist question of how I knew he was a Jew, He was wearing a Yamulka) I next met a 30 something Jewish Columbia Alumni, who was, like me, an early arrival… I handed him one of the reading lists that I was handing out, and we were soon engaged in dialogue regarding our mutual admiration for a few of the books on my list… Among one of his favorites was Oriana Fallaci’s “The Force of Reason”… For those unfamiliar, Ms. Fallaci, (may my God Bless her eternally), was an Atheist Journalist who rose to prominence during the Vietnam War… In the wake of 9/11, after learning she was terminally Ill with cancer she began writing, in a no holds barred style, about the decline of The Anglo-European in Europe in the face of the rapid Islamization of that Continent.. In her writings Fallaci railed against Western Guilt and on Pg. 284 of The Force of Reason, details an encounter with, then Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict, where they both agreed perpetuating myths like the Crusades being an un-instigated act of aggression committed by Anglo-Europeans, and that Anglo-Europeans aught some how be ashamed of their own culture, feeds right into the hands of the true purveyors of evil in the modern world, the Islamo-Fascists… So there we where, a Jew and a deist, in complete agreement with an Athiest and the Pope; about one central issue; that of the vast superiority Western Civilization has over the yolke and oppression of human being that is so prevalent in fundamental Islam… Not too long after a woman took a couple photos of my sandwich boards, and asked if I worked for Jihad Watch,( I was wearing one of their t-Shirts)… I replied “No.. I’m a free-lance infidel”… She was an Iranian research scholar, and her focus of late has been on trying to create an organized Islamic Secularist Movement… This is no small matter since her actions have led to her being branded an apostate of Islam… This transgression, of trying to separate Religion & State carries a religiously sanctioned death sentence should some Islamo-Fascist ever wish to track her down… I was thoroughly impressed with her defiant nature, and we became fast friends… As we talked I mentioned to her how so often people level the accusation towards me that I am anti-Islam… When I told her my overall attitude towards religion is; I have no problem with any practitioner of faith as long as they do so peacefully and it in no way interferes with my day to day existence… She laughed and said “You mean like a true secular liberal in this society is supposed to be?” I fancy myself (& the owner of this site can tell you this is accurate) a staunch Secular Humanist, just not a hypocritical one like most who make the same claim… I say most of the secular humanists are hypocrites because I firmly believe, if the Catholic church or the mainstream Jewish lobbying groups were actually to advocate the implementation of state sanctioned strict adherence to their religions we would see a revolt here in the west… Though given the cowardice they’ve displayed thus far confronting violent religious extremists, it’s safe to say, it would be a fairly benign revolt… Judging by their past behavior, perhaps it would be called the Cream Pie Revolution… The last man I met was a gentile originally from Pennsylvania… Together we came to what I believe was a very prescient conclusion… Though living some 230 years later, we were really no different than our founding fathers… For just like they did, we stood united, brothers and sisters from around the world, gathered together in the New World defying the tyranny of the old… Human Pride World-Wide |
