It seems to me, editor Bob Unger has taken his ball home and won't come back out.
Hey Bob? I'm rubber and you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you. Nyaa Nyaa and the rest of it. Are ya kidding me? The Standard Times of New Bedford newspaper is officially not playing nice nice with WBSM again..EVER!! Mostly because we're  a jerkface kaka dummyhead.
Suggestion? Take the diaper off.

I know you are but what am I?

It's not often when I go through the Internet to fish for stories for show topics that I find myself as one of the subjects. Sunday was one of them though. The New Bedford Standard Times editor Bob Unger has decided to sever all ties with WBSM based on the unnamed talk show hosts' "vicious" criticism. Unnamed, that is, other than he points out it wasn't Pete Braley.
The editor seems to find courage and virtue in not naming names when it comes to a story personal to the ST.  On the contrary, when I have a problem with someone's writings or utterances they are named. (It helps the reader or listener know what the hell I'm talking about).

Bob Unger has decided that his paper will no longer "help" the WBSM station out by providing news reporters and columnists to appear six days per week to promote the newspaper free of charge. In fact, he seems to take exception to the fact that WBSM does not pay the newspaper to promote itself. Let's see ten years of five free minutes per day, that's thirty minutes per week times five-hundred weeks (ten years) which equals fifteen-thousand free minutes of advertising in exchange for one ad per week in the paper promoting The Standard Times reporters appearing on WBSM.

Good thinking Bob, you've just cut off your face to spite your head. " I think this will be good for both the Standard Times and WBSM to go there own way" BSM/FUN 107 station General Manager Gail LeBlanc told me yesterday.

Mr. Unger calls the WBSM host(s) "vicious" and "deeply cynical" who attack his newspaper to build our audience and for ratings purposes. I can only speak for myself but I am always shedding a light on the newspaper''s angle to form opinion when reporting. Careful Bob, the last time you called someone vicious, it cost you your position*. Bob once worked as the executive editor at the Centre Daily Times in Pennsylvania when he 'fired' Ann Coulter as a guest columnist. He cited this as one of the two reasons,

"There is only one thing wrong with liberals: They're no good."- Ann Coulter. For this "vicious" line in her popular column Mr. Unger said she "crossed the line". He also said, ""We don’t welcome haters, Ann, and that’s what you are…," wrote Unger. "Ann, you’re mean – vicious, really – which is why we do not believe that you in any way serve the public good."

The result was what few Greater New Bedford residents know about. The following is from Richard Poe of thefreerepublic.com website:

Unger says that he stepped down after reaching a "mutual" decision with publisher Henry Haitz, based upon a "difference in style and objective." Note the word "objective." A publisher’s objective is to sell papers. Could it be that Mr. Haitz decided that bashing Ann Coulter was not conducive to that objective?

Unger insists that his decision to drop Miss Coulter’s column was popular. But popular with whom?

On September 18, Unger told Bill O’Reilly of Fox News, "I’ve heard from about 6,000 people… About 90 percent of them… said… "`You're right, We're tired of hate speech.’… [Ann Coulter] is at odds with the majority of the American people."

After his termination, however, Unger changed his tune. He still told Editor & Publisher on October 22 that his mail was supportive; "80-85%" of his 5,000-odd e-mails supposedly applauded his decision.

But, curiously, Unger added, "I know that doesn't represent the general population, but it represented the people who wrote me."

Now wait a minute. If Unger’s mail supported him, how does he know that the "general population" does not? ESP?

I strongly suspect that Unger is lying about his e-mails.

"Axing Coulter didn't cost me my job," said the headline in Editor & Publisher Online (E&P) on October 22. "I don’t think that had anything to do with it," Unger told the interviewer.

Now at my own peril, I will assume that it isn't me alone which has Mr. Unger devising the schism between the South coast's two major media outlets but I have been the most vocal and arguably the best prepared to undress the liberal slants the paper's editor works hard to sell to the reader. I'm also the guy who, with no request or motive, called the newly arrived editor back in April of 2005 and invited him on to introduce himself to the audience. I had only started my own show on air several months earlier (1/24/05) and since my first day, was inundated with complaints about the Standard Times. See it isn't just you Bob. In our one hour on air discussion, Bob and I went over his career and his philosophy as editor. He described himself as a true moderate and one who would guide the paper to stick to the facts when reporting and we agreed columnists and reporters are different vocations. I asked my audience to give the newspaper another try if they had cancelled their subscriptions and this was the "vicious" Ken Pittman's first meeting with the new editor. An olive branch to his Editorness himself.

Sorry Bob but your agenda became clear soon after you started. On December 17, 2005 a story was printed in the Standard Times speaking factually of a University of Massachusetts student (unnamed) who was visited by Homeland Security Department agents after he checked a Mao Zedong book (The Little Red Book) out of the college library. Problems then surfaced like, there is no specific agency called Homeland Security so there would be no agents identifying themselves as such. The Department of Homeland Security oversees many agencies. What this was, and the nation agreed as it was covered all over the world, was an opportunity to Bush bash.

Your agenda as a leftist is as clear as the skies over Dartmouth's stunning Round Hill Beach in July. Look at your opinion/ editorial panel, you have openly self described liberals and even a communist panelist! Look at the lop-sided political cartoons in the Op/ed page. Look at your (lack of) coverage of the economy, the fixation of only the negative parts of the war, the illegal immigration issue where the newspaper has clearly advocated for the aliens, gay issues again no balance, the absence of criticism of elected Democrats from Massachusetts at almost any level. Am I lying? Let's examine it, hey I'm here to be truthful. March 18, 2007 a disabled US Navy veteran Marjorie Blaha showed up at a pro-illegal alien rally in her own town and in a school she helped build with her taxes to bravely offer a sole opposing view and in a ST story your paper defined her as a "heckler", and arguably inferred that she was there with the KKK! Now go to another story for which the paper also fails to report on objectively, gay marriage. The over one-hundred pro gay marriage "counter protesters" as they were defined by the ST, as they showed up and disturbed the peace of a rally organized by those with a permit. Again, defined not as hecklers but "counter-protesters" despite far more outragious behavior than Ms.Blaha "the KKK heckler."  It ain't us Bob, its your own ink damning you. My kingdom for an original leftist loon. What is wrong with veracity over ferocity?

I can remember the last time we met. It was in the New England Cable News (NECN) studios in Newton. Illegal Immigration was the issue. Many reading this saw the segment. On the way back to our cars I urged you to disclose to your readers who the leading advocates of the illegal aliens back in New bedford are. Jose Soler who organized the protest rally of the ICE raid of the Michael Bianco Inc. After detailing that Soler is an editor for a Marxist magazine, Political Affairs, and contributes to Peoples Weekly World, a communist Internet newspaper and an offshoot of the 1957 KGB created World Workers Party. I told you exactly who he was and you smiled and walked away....never letting New Bedford know who it was leading the charge to keep illegals here.

One is likely to agree with Mr. Unger that his staff is a good one. Nicodemus, Spillane, Fraga, Evans, Urbon and a few others do a fine job. Steve Urbon is often able to report when reporting and opine when appropriate and I respect his ability to do so. Ken Hartnett, while a silly apologist for all white people, is an aging columnist and accomplished so I respect that you allow him a role. I also expect you to soon be frequently grabbing the rim of the toilet with the thoughts of getting your paycheck from the same guy who employs Fox N-n-news, BLAH!

Bob take your ball and stay inside. You can do your little part for your cause and suppress the news and make subtle suggestions and inferences amidst the facts. It's what the left does. But I'll be there to catch some of them and I will always just be me. Microphone or not. Ken Pittman Show or not.
