Now I'm not much into poetry but I still recall the time I was watching C-SPAN and a Harvard professor recited this Rudyard Kipling poem titled, "The God's of The Copybook Heading". He orated this poem in a contemporary way and out of pure memory with such passion that it was obvious he wanted the others he was invited to speak to in this Washington gathering, to understand how the words reached him so profoundly.

In the poem, Kipling creates two groups of these fictitious gods; The Gods of the Marketplace who offer the empty promises of the liberal but promises which are far more appealing ones than those offered by the boring, conservative second clan of gods called the Gods of the Copybook Headings who, in the end are vindicated each time the liberal ways fail those who buy into it. Again, it was a contrast and lesson pointing out the flaws of liberalism found in The Gods of the Marketplace with their much more appealing yet reckless ways and how most people in all eras fall into the trappings and choose that over the conservative Gods of The Copybook Heading and their far less appealing truths of society and life itself. It's a bit deep but if I could understand it, then you can:



As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!


Well the lights are out for good with regards to the Roman Empire. Now they are blinking in America and once again the more appealing yet reckless ways of the liberal have been accepted by a slight majority. Liberal dominated public schools are now teaching our children, among other things, that America was not founded by great men but by racists and hypocrites. Why even in New Orleans no structure may be named after George Washington (because he owned slaves). Nevermind the fact that he pulled off one of the most unlikely military upsets in history, freeing the American colonies from the British empire, motivated by his belief in God Almighty and dedicated to the idea of a nation built on freedom and ideals. While I am quite certain that I would have been a proud and loud abolitionist, I think many today are ignorant of the times in which our founders lived.

Today we seem to live in times where every culture but our own is encouraged by apologists and supported by liberals. Take the Islamic agenda damage control organization CAIR when it comes to Muslim activity or GLAD when it comes to the radical gay agenda and the ACLU which has represented both, also defends NAMBLA, an underground organization of gay men molesting underage boys. While all these activists explain away their version of their goals in America, we have watched liberals like Bill Clinton in 1998 throw the Boy Scouts of America out of public schools for upholding their Christian beliefs that homosexuality is offensive to God.

The media covered the beating and ultimate death of a gay man named Matthew Shepherd by two thug homophobes while they intentionally ignored a more heinous crime that occured less than a year later when two gay men sodomized, tortured and murdered a young boy (Jesse Dirkhising) after hours of unspeakable abuse. (For example the police say he eventually choked to death on his own underwear which was stuffed in his mouth to stop others from hearing his cries for help and his screams of pain while he was duct taped to a mattress.)

Not so long ago politicians were turned away in disgrace if they were caught in scandals. Even  the beloved JFK took extraordinary caution not to have any extra-marital affairs discovered by anyone in the media. Today, mayors can be caught, indicted and incarcerated for purchasing and smoking crack cocaine only to be re-elected by a public who didn't care that he did those things. Married presidents can receive oral sex from interns half his age and its 'no big deal'..as long as the busted politician is a liberal. Liberal congressmen can have gay brothels in their townhouses with little outrage, governor's aides can molest children and keep their jobs too. State senators can sexually assault women and the prosecutors will not prosecute.

Defending the innocent unborn from abortion has become an outrage and executing violent murderers after fair trials a human rights mission. Morality is corroding exponentially in the United States.

Al Gore and liberal climatologists are controlling the science regarding climate change dubbed Global Warming. Green is the new ""red". We are putting ourselves last instead of first. President-elect Obama is about to force Americans to convert to a way of life that prioritizes the ecology over the quality of life here and certainly over national security. His parroting of the Global Warming cartel shows us that he is on the attack against America's most abundant energy source; coal. Al Gore is simultaneously applauding China's ongoing contruction to build 2,000 coal burning electricity generating plants while he fights to ban America from building one more. Think about how "ungreen" our practices have become in the interest of being ecologically sound.

We are converting to "green" electrical light bulbs called compact fluorescent bulbs which are all built in China, all manufactured with dirty, unregulated coal burning electrical plants, all are loaded up with toxic mercury, loaded onto trucks and trains, put on  mega-cargo ships. These behemoths tug across the Pacific Ocean using incredible consumptions of diesel fuel, traveling at some 30 knots despite their size.

Once our nation is forced to convert to these bulbs, we will then be disposing the burnt ones on our soil, mercury contents and all. Argue with any of this and the liberals will collectively write you off as a low brow, rigid ignorant fool. I guess morons like me who believe the climate changes depend on the activity on the surface of the sun much more than the carbon dioxide production of man. I'm not saying I'm right. I'm just saying the truth. We still do not know very much about the causes of global warming (which appears to have ended despite the lies of Gore friend Dr. Hansen at NASA who was busted using September 07 temperatures for the display of October 07 temperatures. His excuse? Oh, did I do that?")

So liberals have advanced against morality and have seized the reigns of accepted science while the science is still unsettled but there is more..

How often have you watched C-SPAN or the news to listen to a liberal like Ted Kennedy or Harry Reid lament over American jobs going overseas? What have they done about it besides grandstand to their choir? No real legislation. No bill. No substantive protections  have passed to preserve American jobs. More interesting is the fact that liberals fight awfully hard to stop any immigration enforcement. Here in New Bedford, Massachusetts Senators Kennedy and Kerry both rushed to comfort confused masses of illegal immigrants from Guatamala, Honduras and of course, Mexico shortly after ICE raided a textile manufacturing plant containing 361 illegal immigrant workers. Not one time did the liberal senators, governor or mayor here articulate outrage that American jobs are being outsourced to foreign labor inside America and in this case, within walking distance from their homes.

While President Bush still leaves Republicans pondering and scratching our heads over his lax immigration enforcement policy, it is predominantly the liberal Democrats who push for amnesty and for The U.S. to ignore our constitution and federal laws.

Our language is becoming less decided and English is being contested as the national language. Incoming president-elect Obama once stated that Americans had better learn Spanish. Since when is it not urgent for people moving to America to learn the English language? Why are the liberals endorsing this multi-culturalism and hailing diversity in this area when it only separates and divides communities all the more? We are balkanizing and growing less united and this is a good "progressive" direction?

Liberal dominated public schools are asking less of the student and providing more excuses why they should not be expected to exceed or even equal past generations of students. MCAS and other extremely unchallenging tests are even accused of being unfair by the liberal parrots given their marching orders. (MCAS only requires a score of 25% to pass. The answer format is checking off A,B,C or D. Even if one did not know a single answer and took the test, statistically they would likely pass.)

While some of these things parallel ancient Rome, another model comes to mind. Communist totalitarian or even stronghanded socialist states always separate into two classes; the ruling and the working. The working class is subjected to controlled news, education and information and we are well on our way.
 
As we move ahead and leave the ideals of a nation that once collectively strived to please the God of Abraham, Moses and David toward a state where the state is the almighty, I find myself asking the question again. With countrymen like this, who needs enemies?
