While it was not a debate, it was an opportunity for both Democratic and Republican presidential candidates to publicly win inside the arena of ideas. Sure, Saturday Night broadcasts aren't exactly prime-time and the fact that The Olympics were on TV didn't help but it is clear that many did indeed watch. The live audience was an enormous group of evangelical Christians.
Perhaps the biggest flop for Obama was his addressing the abortion issue. When asked the question, "At what point does a human baby get rights?", by Pastor Rick Warren , the Democratic nominee provided an answer that had his policy strategists squirming in their seats; "Whether you are looking at it from a theological perspective or scientific perspective, answering that question with any specificity, is above my pay-grade."
There are two ways people responded to this:
1) Many said to themselves or to others around them that he merely avoided the issue and was obviously uncomfortable. To admit that he is not qualified to speak on something he has voted on for years is nothing short of an utterance of an imbecile.
That would be the response from Republicans and unafilliated conservative and moderate voters.
2) Others came away with near fainting admiration of such 'rare candid fortitude'. Wow. Did you hear how many three and four syllable words he was able to use? Man, he is s-o-o smart! Those Christian zealots need to keep their rosaries off of women's ovaries anyway.
That of course, is the reponse from the Democrats and liberals from the Green, Communist and Rainbow Parties.
My Ken Pittman take on it is more focused on the failure of the typical news controlling leftist media. CNN omitted the utterance. MSNBC as well. CNN is willing to let you hear John McCain respond to abortion by linking his video but don't look for senator Obama's bombing perspective, CNN obviously agrees with me that he has hurt himself in a large way here. There is no such opportunity to review it.
Still reeling from the resurfacing news that, then State Senator of Illinois Barack Obama killed a bill that would have protected a live baby from being euthanized after being born alive, he now admits that he is not qualified to decide when a person born in the USA should begin to get constitutional guaranteed rights! I was under the impression that our Constitution did that for us in the 14th Amendment.
The bill that Obama voted against in Illinois was strikingly similar to that which passed in the US Senate 98-0. Even proud babykillers like Ted Kennedy and Barbara Boxer voted for it but it seems to be too far to the right for the presidential nominee of the Democrats.
Parroting scripture from the Gospel Book of Matthew may have been the game plan for Obama's camp but it didn't do enough to veil the ideology which abandons Christianity. At least I found myself finally agreeing with him on one thing; He isn't qualified to be president.
Last night just cost Barack Obama over a million votes...maybe far more than a million.
I'll be sitting in the Greater New Bedford radio station of WBSM on election night watching and listening to the marxists and abortionist's lamentation of the Obama loss to "right wing racists" but, like everything else, they will be wrong on that too. The pendulum may favor Democrats this year but America's heartland still has core values even if the stacked up, urban entitlists in places like Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, New Bedford or Berkeley don't.
