As swiftly as the Russian troops converged into Georgia last week, they have now abandoned all agreements to a cease-fire. Now the Russians are telling the world that the days of Georgian sovereignty are over. They invaded, they brutalized and they lied every step of the way. It is the way of the Russians. The micro-era of goodwill between America and the Russians is coming to an end and is likely to worsen by the week.
Pentagon experts fear that the nation of Ukraine is next. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko anticipating Russian aggression has now imposed restrictions on Russia's Black Sea Fleet which has angered the Kremlin and may have triggered a rationale for invading there as well.
Clearly, Condaleeza Rice under estimated the desire of Russian ambitions to thwart pro-western movements in former Soviet Bloc nations with no better example than Georgia who has designed their constitution after the United States'. The 3rd largest contigency of military allies of America in Iraq, Georgia, have now left for home to defend their land against an overwhelming Russian force which, according to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, are executing Georgian men and raping the women at the time of this writing.
"Always trust the communists to be communists." - Ronald Reagan
In retrospect, it looks as though President George W. Bush was right all along in his desire to place a strategic missile defense system between western allies and Putin's Russia. Now America must ask itself a very important question; Who is better equipped to preside over the United States with a sudden titan threat to worldwide peace?
Of course the left here in America reacted as expected. The leftist newspapers such as my local propagandist paper the New Bedford Standard Times are siding with Putin and finding blame in the Bush administration for the sudden war. The talking points from noted liberals such as my friend Ellen Ratner which suggest that the USA has no moral high ground to dispute the invasion since we did the "same" thing to Iraq. Not so fast. There are some big contrasts to point out.
Russia and Georgia were not in a UN sanctioned cease-fire
Georgian government officials were not accused of: using WMD on their citizens, throwing political opposition into woodchippers, setting up rape facilities, paying suicide bombers to attack Israel, assisting terrorists with diplomatic immunity such as Abu Nidal, Abu Abbas, Ramzi Yousef, Abdul Rahman Yasin and many others.
Georgia had broken no UN resolutions.
America has not intentionally targeted civilians.
American forces did not loot Iraqi assets as the Russians have. The American people instead have poured billions of dollars there to benefit the people of Iraq.
Some advise to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. You better start drilling locally because the trasportation of petroleum from the Middle East may be a bit more difficult if things get any worse.
